The Introduction of alternative model of education for seafarers, Zagreb, 08th September 2010
After several meetings held between the Ministry of the Sea with social partners and other relevant expert, the Ministry has developed Draft of new regulation for seafarers education program , which will enable obtaining highest level of competency (Master, Ch/Off, Ch/Eng and 2/Eng on a ship of 3000 GT or more) without completing Maritime University – obtaining University Diploma.
Proposal of alternative educational model, so called „special program of education“ was developed by Association of Maritime school and Colleges of Republic of Croatia. This model will enable Merchant Marine Officers who completed Maritime schools, have sufficient seaservice as Officers to complete this special program of education and obtain highest level of competency.
Present model of education will remain the same, i.e. with alternative model of education, will also have traditional model, enabling seafarers with more education to obtain highest level of competency faster, with less seaservice required.
