Today, The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure held a meeting of Working Group for creating special (alternative) education program for obtaining highest level positions for Seafarers (Senior Officers).
Today, 13th July 2010, The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure held a meeting of Working Group for creating special (alternative) education program for obtaining highest level positions for Seafarers (Senior Officers), led by Capt. Mario Babic, State Secretary of the Sea.
Draft amendments to the Regulation were agreed, for seafarers who have completed Maritime schools, have Officer/Engineer Licence, minimum three years seaservice on board (36 months as Officer/Engineer), with this special program of education (total duration six months) and exams will be able to obtain highest level Certificate of Competency.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Maritime Colleges, Maritime Schools, ITF, Manning agents, Seafarers associations and Associations of Maritime engineers.This special program will be held on Maritime Colleges, and through scoring system of ECTS students/seafarers will be able to continue their education at College/University.
The Ministry has proposed that Maritime Colleges adjust these programs to active seafarers/industry demands, and to be organized by modules on several terms thru year.In the preparation of amendments of Regulation, the Ministry considered results of a survey carried out among seafarers on its website. Survey showed that active seafarers are extremely interested in this kind of education.
